What is Giotto?
Giotto is a program that corrects, customizes the quality of the images quickly and easily directly in your VIDEO VIEW.
This will allow you to create an archive for presentations or where to draw on for a direct dialogue with various customers or suppliers.
Programs for control and measures in the industrial sector don't often give much importance to the quality of the images; with Giotto you can correct them, straighten, crop, add or remove color, brightness, contrast or even turn them into black and white, invert colors to better highlight certain details.
The original images will never be lost because a new folder containing the elaborated images will be created.
- A main window (A) where the image to be modified appears.
- A presentation window (B) where all the images of the selected folder appear.
- A small window (C) displays the image taken as sample (Model).
- A window (D) called Elaborated, where the images that are believed to be correct are displayed and automatically saved in a folder.
- A window (E) called Limbo, that appears as an alternative to the Elaborated window, where the correct images are placed temporarily without being saved yet.
File –> Open –> Only a Photo
The image will be proposed in the main window (A) and in the model window (C).
File –> Open –> All Photo in the same directory
The image will be proposed in the main window (A) and in the model window (C), and all the imagesin the folder appear in the window (B).
Language –> Italian/English
The program is in Italian and English.
The profile is a series of settings (color, brightness, contrast, ecc) that are to be applied to one or more images without having to reset every time the proper correction values on each photo of the same kind.
Example: a picture that represents a type of material (brass) could have different color settings from another material (aluminum): while more brightness and contrast will be necessary for the brass, the aluminum may need less contrast and yellow.
In this way if many photos of the same type of material are to be correct, once a photo is corrected with the optimal parameters, they may be save in a profile, used if necessary to correct the other photos faster.
Infinite profiles can be created (to match to the type of the image or to the customer/supplier), you can also edit or delete them.
The creation of the profile is very simple, in fact you need only to enter its name in the window and automatically all the parameters that are setted at that time will be saved.
The selected profile will be displayed in the menu bar.
You can transform the image into black and white.
Correction brightness, contrast and color of the image.
Once you opened one or more photos and selected one to be corrected, with your experience you should judge whether the same is light or dark, then using the Brightness parameter, increase or decrease the value.
When the Brightness will seem good (for non-experts: white portions of an image must have a minimum of detail) you can perform a correction of the Contrast and you should see already if your picture will be better or worse.
If the colors will appear wrong, they also need a correction.
The color correction will be very easy if you follow some basic rules:
a) See if on a white surface other colors don't appear; for example if the surface appear slightly yellow, it will be necessary to reduce the percentage of the yellow, moving the cursor to the blue. The same procedure will be followed for other colors.
b) Always have a sample image stored in the computer, that has many colors and details in white or black, with which perform tests and compare them with the same printed image.
If you change the values of the parameters of the model that you are working on and you are not happy with the results, you can always click on the Model image and start over.
Very useful and interesting can be initially save in the Limbo window each time you perform a correction on the image, so as to have a correct sequence of images to choose from that will then be saved in the Elaborated.
Among the images that you have corrected and that are in the Limbo you'll have definitely one that more meets your eye Then you can take it between the Elaborated by right-clicking the mouse on it and selecting Export as elaborated.
To view the images saved in the Elaborated you must click the button Hide Limbo.
If the correct image appears to be better than the initial model (original) but not fully meet your eye, you can bring as Model selecting it among the Elaborated (or from the Limbo), and then start to perform further corrections.
If we want to review all the pictures in the Elaborated to get greater visibility and continuity between similar images you can click on Elaborated Preview under the menu bar.
