VIDEO MICRO CHECK (VMC)

The VMC is a professional video device with interchangeable objectives having magnetic connection; it has been designed to meet with the growing need of dermatologists to have a small video magnifier, practical and handy, easy to be carried, not so expensive but able to provide images of quality if connected to a PC or to one's own laptop. It basically consists of an high-quality video-optical system, with micrometrical focusing and a practical handle in which an adjustable cold light lighting source is placed.
A wide range of objectives purposely studied for dermatology, trichology and a special series for capillaroscopy are available, so that the VMC becomes starting base for the different applications. The VMC- DERMA's objective in outfit is the 50X, in whose support base there is a glass lens with an engraved scale with decimal divisions scale which, if necessary, can be replaced with a lens in neutral glass. The VMC system can be supplied in a "Power Carrying Case" where there is also a battery with battery-charger which ensure a working autonomy of eight hours. The connection to a PC or laptop is very easy because is made through Firewire cable and USB; the "VideoKLite" software (in English or in Italian language) for the acquisition, measurement, comparison and storing of the images complete the outfit of the system.
The capture of the pictures during the use of the VMC can take place directly by software, by a button placed on the VMC's knob, or just by a dedicated foot switch connectable to the "Power Carrying Case".

The capillaroscope is very similar to the VMC for dermatology and trichology because it can be also used if the same objectives are utilized. It is provided with a special additional luminous source and with a series of dedicated objectives with magnetic connection which makes it suitable to a careful exam of the various superficial capillary vessels.
The conformation like a funnel (in stainless steel) of the final part which gets in touch with the skin, is suitable to do inspections also among the fingers of a hand. A particular glass placed at the base of the funnel prevents that improper particles can go inside the device prejudicing the quality of the images and the duration of the objectives.

The method consists in putting and lightly compressing the lighting optical part on the cutaneous surface interested where the capillary vessels are more highlightable. (ex. near the nails' root of the hands, etc.).
On the cutaneous surfaces to be examined it is advisable to apply a thin layer of inert liquid (oil for immersion, cedar oil, etc.), which allows a better transparency of the skin owing to the reduction of the refraction index existing between glass - air - skin, in other words the captured images will be of good quality allowing a reliable diagnosis also using a not invasive method.
The capture of the pictures can take place directly by software, by a button placed on the capillaroscope's knob, or just by a dedicated foot switch connectable to the "Power Carrying Case".

Dermatology objectives
Capillaroscopy objectives

The capillaroscope can be used both with low magnifying objectives (wide field of view – dermatology) and with high magnifying objectives (capillaroscopy).
The objectives’ replacement is very simple and quick because they all have a magnetic attack, therefore a weak pressure downward, to remove and replace them, is just needed.
While the objectives for dermatology have a larger support base, the capillaroscopy ones have been designed to be used either on narrow epidermic surfaces (i.e. between the fingers, etc.), the last mentioned must be coupled with the light conveyor, which has a support function too.
All the objectives are shielded at their base by a protection glass, allowing the contact of the various lubes used in dermatology and in capillaroscopy (immersion oil, cedar oil, etc.).
Notice that the employ of the right kind of objective depends only on your personal experience, but, however, you must know that high magnification objectives (i.e. 450X/1000X) must be used with a firm hand and pressing lightly and constantly with the tool on the surface examined, to avoid to focus continuously the capillaroscope’s ring nut.
If you wish to acquire the picture of the visage of a patient to insert him in a database, you should use the VMC-8,3 objective. Putting vertically the capillaroscope in a hand about 50cm far from the visage of the patient, adequately enlightened, and focusing it with the relative ring nut, the capture of the picture can be done pushing the button placed on the device’s knob or with the pedal connectable to the case’s console.
